Rise and shine!

This is really an event you don't want to miss out on. I was lucky enough to attend the Sunrise performance last year at the IMPAC film festival and I was blown away.

Here's a brief run-down of what to expect.

Sunrise - Outdoor Film and Sound Experience
Featuring Jacob Israel and Skyline on Fire

What do you get when you combine a classic silent black-and-white film from the 1920’s and the electronic sounds from our digital age? A mesmerizing eclectic experience where live music and sound brings a vintage film back to life.

The Open Window School of Visual Communication, who is synonymous with originality and innovation, will once again be the talking point with this production to be screened on Friday evening 2 November at their campus in Irene, Pretoria.

We invite all culture addicts and lovers of music, movies and life to join us for the screening of the silent film “Sunrise”, accompanied by a live original soundtrack in quadrophonic sound created and performed by Jacob Israel and A Skyline on Fire. F.W Murnau directed “Sunrise” and stars silent film actors George O’Brian and Janet Gaynor.

The film will be screened in the square on campus under the night sky. Bring your picnic blankets and camping chairs for a memorable event under the stars.

Tickets: R20, available at the entrance
The Open Window Campus
1297 John Vorster drive, Southdowns, Irene
Refreshments will be for sale
Secure parking available

Be there. You won't regret it!

Behind the Scenes - Jaws Sweded

We are back! This time the swede is leaner, meaner and with a whole lot more cardboard which is exactly what you need for a monster movie!

The Home Movie Factory

So this week was field trip time! We all boarded the magical silver Mahindragon and singing merrily, we drove to Johannesburgtownville to go experience the magic of Michel Gondry's Home Movie Factory in the Maboneng precinct.

It's quite an amazing setup not only in terms of the physical sets and effort that has been put into making the factory a reality, but the meticulously planned and well guided journey of film making is an insane amount of fun!

A good time, i would venture to say, was had by all!

Oh, and the movie we made? Well, it's called How did the Evil Joburg Space Cops die? Vol.2

Yip.

Press Pause Play

I came across this film that was shown at the Design Film Festival in Singapore in 2011.

Here's a brief synopsis:

"The digital revolution of the last decade has released creativity and talent in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunities. But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity?

This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world's most influential creators of the digital era."

You can watch the entire film on Vimeo here:

And here's a link to their website:

Enjoy! It's really worthwhile watching.

The need for swede!

In honour of this event/exhibition (which I'm sure you've all heard of by now..)

Here is the Swede we did of Castaway for Rebel Alliance: The Need for Swede 1.
